Blog 1 - Where is Ragnarök Protocol?
10/18/2026
Hello Everyone,
If you were worried I fell into a well and couldn’t get out, I don’t blame you. It has been quite the dry spell of Ragnarök Protocol News, and for that I apologize. Life, work, making friends in this deep well, they have all been taking their own pieces of my time.
That being said, I have some news regarding Ragnarök Protocol, as well as another game that I have been building on the side.
Ragnarök Protocol
Ahh- my pride and joy. Right out of the gate, I will inform you that this game will not be released this year. I am shooting for sometime after Next Fest in February 2027, but I can’t give an exact date yet. At PAX East, what I showed many of you was truly the good stuff. The majority of the other levels were what we like to call “Greyboxed” or “Terrifying to look at”. Since PAX, I have been hard at work building out the remainder of these levels and adding in some cutscenes and cinematics.
I had plans for hand making each cutscene, but to be honest, I want to get this game released and in your hands. To do that, I have to prioritize my available time. I have moved away from the AAA handcrafted animations that I was first aiming for, and have went for a lower stress approach of picture/ text based cutscenes. The story of the Norse Gods and their curse is still there, it has simply been adapted to the capabilities of a fulltime solo game dev with a second job.
That being said, combat, sound design, graphics, UI, they are all shaping up to deliver exactly what I pictured in my mind. Many of you were intrigued by the combat, and the rhythmic back and forth with enemies. Well, I’m happy to say that there are plenty of abilities and enemies you have yet to see. (And they are super fun!)
Here are some pictures!
Rock Paper Viking
What a cute name for a cute game. A game that has a demo live as of TODAY!
That’s right. A game i made called Rock Paper Viking is now up on Steam to play. It will be featured in the October Steam Next Fest that starts October 19th! Woohoo!
Alright, so i admit, I am kind of a maniac when it comes to game ideas. Once I have one that I think should exist it tends to begin manifesting. Most of them stay as just a few sketches, or Blender projects, but this one took on a full life of its own.
For those with a keen eye, you will notice the gameplay of this matches Ragnarök Protocol to some degree. That was by design. Using coding from Ragnarök Protocol to set a foundation for this game sped up the dev process tenfold.
This is a “pocket game”. Comparable to an appetizer next to a full course meal. It is designed from the ground up to be easy, fun, and beatable in one sitting. I, of course, added some incentives to come back for a round or two, but for the most part it is a low stakes session to blow off some steam.
Conclusion
Thank you for your patience with me. My dream is to make video games for the rest of my life and grow Gunnar Krieger into a respected name in the gaming community. Until then, I will focus on one step at a time.
Take Care,
Bobby
P.S. I added my novels to my website if you are a reader by any chance. Working on getting audiobooks for these as well.
